Introduction
Chianti Montalbano Riserva DOCG is the Riserva version of Chianti Montalbano DOCG, produced within the designated Montalbano subzone in Tuscany. Compared with the standard Chianti Montalbano, this designation identifies wines subject to longer mandatory aging, allowing greater development of their aromas, structure, and palate characteristics before release.
Description of Chianti Montalbano Riserva DOCG
The wine has a bright ruby-red colour, which may develop garnet hues with aging. Its aroma is intense and refined, sometimes showing characteristic violet notes that become more complex during maturation. On the palate, Chianti Montalbano Riserva DOCG is dry, savoury, and slightly tannic, with a structure that progressively becomes softer and more velvety through aging. Notes reminiscent of berries and other woodland fruits may contribute to its aromatic profile.
Production methods for Chianti Montalbano Riserva DOCG
The production of Chianti Montalbano Riserva DOCG follows the general production requirements established for the Chianti Montalbano subzone, while the Riserva designation imposes additional aging requirements. The wine must undergo a minimum aging period of two years, calculated from January 1 of the year following the harvest, before it can be released for consumption.
As with Chianti Riserva DOCG, the designation is also subject to specific bottling and closure requirements, including the use of a traditional flush-cut cylindrical cork, intended to preserve the wine‘s characteristics during storage and maturation.
Unless otherwise specified, the production method for this wine is identical to the one described on the Chianti DOCG page.
