Introduction

Chianti is the basic red wine typology of the Chianti DOCG, produced without a territorial subzone or additional designation. It is based on Sangiovese, which must account for 60โ€“100% of the blend, while other grape varieties permitted for cultivation in Tuscany may be included within the prescribed limits.

Description of Chianti DOCG

The wine is characterized by a lively ruby-red colour, tending towards garnet with ageing, an intense aroma that may include violet notes, and a dry, savoury and slightly tannic palate, which becomes softer and more velvety with maturation. When the traditional governo allโ€™uso Toscano technique is used, the wine may acquire greater liveliness and roundness.
