Introduction
The Laurales constitute an order within the flowering plants, belonging to the group known as magnoliids. This lineage represents an ancient branch of angiosperms with distinctive structural traits. Altogether, the order comprises roughly 2,500 to 2,800 species, distributed across about 85–90 genera and organized into seven families made up primarily of trees and shrubs. The vast majority of these plants thrive in tropical and subtropical regions, although certain genera extend into temperate climates. Among the most recognized members are species within the Lauraceae, including plants such as bay laurel, cinnamon and avocado
Classification of Laurales
This order is in turn divided into families. Among them we find:
- Gomortegaceae (queule)
- Lauraceae (bay laurel, avocado, cinnamon)
